Important Note About Medical Providers

In-network

A provider refers to anyone or organization providing healthcare. BC BS Global Solutions has one of the largest networks for doctors, specialists, and hospitals in the United States. In the United States, medical care is typically provided at a doctor’s office and not at a hospital. Hospitals in the US are for long-term treatment, surgeries and life-threatening emergency care.

While you can seek out medical care with any medical provider you wish we recommend that you stay “in-network”. Medical providers that are in-network are contracted with BC BS Global Solutions. The result is that your out-of-pocket costs, such as deductibles and coinsurance rates, will be lower.

Out-of-network

Also, if you go out-of-network, your claims may be subject to “balance billing”. Balance billing refers to the difference between BC BS GS contracted provider rates and that which an out-of-network provider charge.

Emergency Care – In an emergency, seek care as quickly as possible. All emergency care is considered on-the-network, irrespective of whether the provider is in or out-of-network.

How To See A Doctor In The US

Appointment – In the US, you will need to make an appointment in order to see a doctor. You can book an appointment through the BC BS Global Solutions app. Also, by using the app, you will be assured that the doctor you are seeing is in-network.

ID Card – When you visit a doctor, specialist, urgent care, or hospital, they will ask you for your insurance ID card. Again, the app is a valuable resource because your ID card will be accessible through the app.

Where To Go? – Telehealth, Urgent Care & Emergency Room

Telehealth – Telehealth is an excellent resource that allows you to speak with a doctor 24/7. That doctor can also issue a prescription drug to a local pharmacy. If the issues are serious, the telehealth doctor can recommend that you see an in-person doctor, urgent care or emergency room.

Urgent Care – Urgent care facilities are typically open on the weekends and have extended hours. They are also designed to accept “drop-in” patients. They are a great resource for most medical issues. They can also issue prescriptions like antibiotics and other medications.

Emergency Room – Emergency rooms are designed to treat patients with life-threatening medical problems and not for common or routine medical issues. The costs for using an ER are higher than at an Urgent Care or a doctor office. Therefore, if you do use an emergency room note that your plan has a $200 co-pay if you are not admitted to the hospital.
